Human Resources Coordinator / Generalist

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Human Resources Coordinator / Generalist to support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, scheduling, training, compliance, and day-to-day administrative operations for a growing agricultural business. This is not a traditional corporate HR role. The position works closely with ownership, managers, team leaders, and employees in a casual, rustic, nontraditional farm-office environment.
The ideal candidate balances care and compassion for people with the practical, day-to-day needs of operating an agricultural business. This person should enjoy working with people, staying organized, solving problems, and helping a business run smoothly.
For the right candidate, there is a potential advancement pathway toward an Operations Manager position.
Schedule
- Approximately 40–45 hours per week
- Primarily Monday–Friday
- Must be available for daily on-site morning meetings beginning between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m.
- Typical start time is approximately 7:00–7:30 a.m., with seasonal variation
- Some days may end earlier or later depending on interviews, staffing needs, and operational requirements
- Occasional Saturdays, evenings, or special events may be required
- Occasional communication outside traditional office hours may be necessary due to the nature of agriculture and workforce management
Key Responsibilities
Recruiting & Hiring
- Develop and post job descriptions on the company website, Indeed, and social media
- Review applications and track candidates throughout the hiring process
- Conduct initial screening calls and interviews
- Coordinate and participate in in-person interviews with management
- Conduct reference checks and coordinate background screenings
- Prepare new-hire paperwork
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation
- Maintain accurate hiring records and applicant communications
Human Resources & Employee Support
- Serve as a resource for managers and employees regarding workplace concerns
- Help resolve interpersonal conflicts and de-escalate complaints
- Support consistent implementation of company policies and procedures
- Coordinate employee training, performance reviews, feedback, and follow-up
- Track pay-rate increases, reviews, and required personnel documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files
- Help identify opportunities for employee development, training, and retention
- Support a positive workplace culture built on communication, cooperation, and mutual respect
Scheduling & Workforce Coordination
- Maintain staff calendars and scheduling dashboards
- Track time-off requests, birthdays, anniversaries, and schedule changes
- Help ensure critical shifts are properly staffed
- Coordinate with managers to maintain staffing for farmers markets and other operations
- Track employee hours and follow up on missing or inaccurate time entries
- Verify weekly hours in preparation for payroll
- Prepare reports related to overtime, call-outs, tardiness, and labor costs
- Use Google Sheets and other systems to coordinate daily and weekly workforce goals
H-2A & Regulatory Support
- Maintain awareness of applicable employment, workers' compensation, minimum-wage, and H-2A requirements
- Assist with H-2A seasonal worker applications and required documentation
- Help coordinate travel arrangements and reimbursement documentation
- Occasionally assist with transportation or translation needs for H-2A employees
- Help maintain accurate records and support compliance with applicable regulations
Training & Operations
- Conduct new-employee orientation and food-safety training
- Coordinate required training and ServSafe testing as applicable
- Help ensure employees receive the training needed to perform their roles successfully
- Participate in onboarding throughout the farm, including field production, packing, distribution, and farmers-market operations
- Participate in farmers markets and learn the various functions of the business
- Develop an understanding of the entire operation so you can effectively support employees and managers
- Coordinate employee gatherings and workforce-development opportunities
General Administration
- Participate in daily team-wide morning meetings
- Help communicate daily priorities, successes, challenges, safety information, and training opportunities
- Maintain Trello boards, calendars, meeting notes, and process documentation
- Take notes during weekly administrative meetings and follow up on assignments and deadlines
- Maintain organized digital and paper personnel records
- Provide professional phone and email coverage when needed
- Assist with visitors, vendors, customers, and general office responsibilities
- Support management with special projects and operational priorities
- Help maintain an organized and welcoming office
Required & Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A four-year college degree in any field, or five or more years of leadership experience in an agriculture-related field
- Bilingual Spanish/English ability — highly preferred
- Previous hiring and interviewing experience
- Experience working with a diverse hourly workforce
- Experience in HR, employee relations, recruiting, training, or workforce management
- Experience in agriculture or a related industry such as manufacturing, distribution, shipping, forestry, fishing, or trades
- Valid driver's license
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to consistently arrive on time for early-morning work
Computer & Administrative Skills — Essential
Strong computer skills are a non-negotiable part of this position.
Candidates should be able to:
- Touch type at 40+ words per minute
- Work quickly and accurately on a computer
- Use Google Docs, Gmail, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel
- Create and work with formulas and spreadsheets
- Use or quickly learn pivot tables
- Organize digital and physical files so information can be easily located
- Quickly learn new software and computer systems
- Use online resources, manuals, videos, and technical support to solve problems independently
- Work comfortably with technology and AI tools to improve efficiency
- Experience with QuickBooks Online is a plus
During the interview process, candidates should be prepared to provide specific examples of spreadsheets, formulas, reports, software, and technology they have personally used.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a working farm environment, not a traditional office.
Candidates should be comfortable with:
- A casual, rustic, nontraditional workplace
- Walking on uneven outdoor surfaces
- Participating in outdoor meetings and farm activities in varying weather conditions
- Climbing stairs to the upstairs office
- Occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds
- Participating in farmers markets, farm operations, and team events
- Learning and occasionally helping with different aspects of the operation
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $50,000–$60,000, depending on qualifications and experience
