Schedule:
Seasonal May-August
Full time 40+ hours a week
Monday- Friday 6:30am start time
Pay:
$20/hour
Job Purpose:
In this role, the Field Scout is responsible for monitoring pests and diseases in hops and occasionally other crops. They will gather and record field data to report to their supervisor. The Field Scout will also be responsible for helping with a variety of administrative tasks and reporting back to the Technical Sales Consultant when tasks are accomplished.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Scout assigned fields and/or greenhouses for pests and diseases.
- Record and submit data in an approved format and timely fashion.
- Work with their supervisor to provide detailed descriptions of findings in fields.
- Sort and organize shipments of products at cold storage facility.
- Execute scouting strategies, gather information, and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
- Identify opportunities and act on them in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Communicate professionally and effectively via text, call, and email.
- Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
- Give and welcome feedback; solicits and applies feedback.
- Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; include appropriate people in decision-making process.
- Ability to effectively present information.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Strong attention to detail – scouting involves monitoring for pests that are nearly invisible to the naked eye.
- Ability to define opportunities and problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Spanish fluency considered a plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel; ability to use a smartphone to record data.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- One year of experience in related field preferred OR current university student working on agricultural related degree preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to bugs and insects.
- Regular exposure to agricultural conditions.
- Ability to endure hot and cold temperatures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to frequently bend, crouch, sit, twist, and reach.
- Ability to drive for 1-2 hour stretches of time between farm locations.
- Ability to drive in mild off-road conditions (mud, rocks, shallow holes, etc.).
