Job Full Description
Steel/Coil Company seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Machine Helper to support the operation of our steel coil slitting line.
The Machine Helper plays a critical role in assisting the Slitter Operator with preparing, loading, operating, and unloading material to ensure efficient and accurate processing of flat-rolled steel coils.
Location: Bridgeview, IL
Pay rate: $15-20 DOE
Job Duties:
- Assist with the setup, operation, and clean up of the slitting machine under the direction of Slitter Operator. NOT setting up slitter head, but setting up re-coiler
- Load and unload steel coils onto the machine using overhead crane or coil cars.
- Monitor material during processing for quality and dimensional accuracy(ID/OD, width, gauge).
- Label, band, and tag finished slit coils per customer and company specifications.
- Remove scrap and maintain cleanliness around the machine and work area.
- Perform basic measurements and visual inspections to ensure quality standards are met.
- Communicate any equipment malfunctions, quality issues, or safety concerns promptly.
- Support regular maintenance and cleaning of machinery as directed.
- Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
Qualifications
- English fluency is not required; however, candidates should have basic reading and writing skills in English
- Previous experienced in a Metals, manufacturing, or warehouse environment preferred
- Basic understanding of coil processing or slitting operations is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand, bend, and move for extended periods.
- Must be comfortable working around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Forklift or crane certification is a plus (training available by client)
