Job Full Description
Express Employment Professionals of Oak Lawn is seeking a skilled Cook for a hospital kitchen in Palos. This role is ideal for someone with strong culinary skills and a passion for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients and meals according to approved recipes and dietary guidelines
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., ovens, steamers, slicers, mixers)
- Demonstrate consistent knife skills: chopping, slicing, dicing, paring
- Cook meats, fish, and poultry using various methods: baking, roasting, broiling, steaming
- Present meals for patients, café, and catering services with attention to flavor and appearance
- Monitor food temperatures and maintain safe food handling practices (HACCP standards)
- Complete daily temperature logs and production sheets accurately
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and workstations
- Communicate equipment issues and assist with inventory and leftovers
- Follow instructions from chef or culinary lead regarding recipes and ingredients
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
OR minimum 1 year of experience in cooking, food production, or food service
- Safe Food Handler certification (or willingness to obtain within 1 year of hire)
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience cooking in a healthcare or hospital setting
- Culinary school coursework or training
- Basic understanding of special diets and nutrition
