Lab Technician
SHIFT: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
LOCATION: Near 51st & Central
Position Summary
The Lab Technician supports construction materials testing by preparing concrete test batches, performing standardized property tests, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. This role ensures accurate results for quality control, engineering, and production teams.
Essential Functions (with Time Allocation)
Prepare concrete test batches using specified ingredient ratios, mixing procedures, and testing requirements.
Place fresh concrete into standard molds while following proper consolidation techniques and labeling procedures.
Conduct tests on fresh and hardened concrete and record accurate results.
- Cleaning up testing area – 25%
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized testing area, including washing tools and disposing of waste.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare materials, equipment, and tools needed for mixing and testing.
- Maintain testing equipment and verify calibration.
- Document test results in logs or digital systems.
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Assist with sample collection, labeling, and storage.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Preferred: Associate degree or coursework in materials science, construction technology, engineering technology, or similar.
- Preferred: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification.
Work Experience Requirements
- Required: 3 years’ experience in a laboratory, industrial, construction, or hands-on technical environment.
- Required: Experience using computers and spreadsheet software (Microsoft 365)
- Preferred: Experience in a construction materials testing laboratory or familiarity with ASTM/ACI testing procedures.
- Preferred: 1 year experience performing quality testing or quality audits.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow standardized procedures.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Knowledge of chemical mixing/batching preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
