Lab Technician 

SHIFT: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

LOCATION: Near 51st & Central 

Position Summary

The Lab Technician supports construction materials testing by preparing concrete test batches, performing standardized property tests, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. This role ensures accurate results for quality control, engineering, and production teams.

Essential Functions (with Time Allocation)

  • Making test mixes – 25%

  Prepare concrete test batches using specified ingredient ratios, mixing procedures, and testing requirements.

  • Filling test molds – 15%

  Place fresh concrete into standard molds while following proper consolidation techniques and labeling procedures.

  • Testing mixes – 35%

  Conduct tests on fresh and hardened concrete and record accurate results.

  • Cleaning up testing area – 25%

  Maintain a clean, safe, and organized testing area, including washing tools and disposing of waste.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials, equipment, and tools needed for mixing and testing.
  • Maintain testing equipment and verify calibration.
  • Document test results in logs or digital systems.
  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Assist with sample collection, labeling, and storage.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: Associate degree or coursework in materials science, construction technology, engineering technology, or similar.
  • Preferred: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Required: 3 years’ experience in a laboratory, industrial, construction, or hands-on technical environment.
  • Required: Experience using computers and spreadsheet software (Microsoft 365)
  • Preferred: Experience in a construction materials testing laboratory or familiarity with ASTM/ACI testing procedures.
  • Preferred: 1 year experience performing quality testing or quality audits.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Knowledge of chemical mixing/batching preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
