Locomotive Mechanic
Minooka, IL
$25.00-30.00/hr (based on experience)
Full-Time | 1st Shift (overtime as needed)
Job Overview
A well-established company is seeking a skilled Locomotive Mechanic to join their rebuild shop team. This role focuses heavily on air compressor rebuilds, mechanical diagnostics, and full equipment overhauls. If you’re hands-on, mechanically sharp, and comfortable tearing down and rebuilding components—you’ll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair locomotives and related mechanical systems
- Tear down, rebuild, and overhaul air compressors and engine components
- Perform disassembly, repair, reassembly, and installation of mechanical parts
- Use calipers, micrometers, and diagnostic tools to measure and evaluate components
- Conduct electrical testing and repair batteries, circuits, and equipment systems
- Perform welding and torch work as needed
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and make necessary repairs
- Communicate findings clearly with supervisors
- Operate forklifts and other shop equipment
- Maintain safe and organized work environment
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Trade school or formal training in diesel/locomotive mechanical maintenance preferred
- Minimum 2+ years of locomotive, diesel mechanic, or heavy equipment experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude with rebuild and overhaul experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with heavy equipment
