Chief Operations Officer (COO) Job Summary:
Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM) is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives affected by homelessness through shelter, recovery, housing, and supportive services. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) serves as a key executive leader and functions as the Integrator under the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS®). Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer (Visionary), the COO is responsible for translating vision into execution, aligning people and processes, and ensuring operational excellence across all ministry functions.
This role provides organizational clarity, accountability, and execution while upholding MTM’s mission, Christian values, and commitment to dignity, safety, and transformational outcomes. The ideal candidate is a servant leader with strong operational acumen, proven experience leading complex organizations, and a passion for faith-based mission work.
Chief Operations Officer (COO) Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the EOS Integrator, translating the CEO’s vision into clear priorities, execution plans, and measurable results
• Ensure full adoption and consistent execution of EOS tools, including V/TO, Rocks, Scorecards, Level 10 Meetings, Issues Lists, and the Accountability Chart
• Lead, coach, and unify the Senior Leadership Team, fostering trust, clarity, and accountability
• Ensure the right people are in the right seats through core values alignment and use of EOS People Analyzer
• Oversee day-to-day operations across shelters, facilities, and support departments, ensuring consistency and quality across multi-site operations
• Establish, document, and continuously improve core operational processes
• Develop and maintain organizational and departmental scorecards with meaningful leading indicators
• Monitor weekly performance metrics and proactively resolve issues using data-driven decision-making
• Partner with program leaders to ensure services are mission-aligned, trauma-informed, outcome-driven, and compliant with grants and regulations
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Vice President of People & Culture to champion a healthy, Christ-centered culture
• Ensure consistent systems across hiring, onboarding, performance management, finance, and development
• Oversee facilities, safety, risk management, capital projects, and emergency preparedness
• Partner with the CFO to ensure operational alignment with budgets, financial stewardship, and sustainability
• Serve as a key internal communicator, ensuring clarity and alignment throughout the organization
• Support board engagement, donor relations, and community partnerships by providing operational insight
• Represent Mel Trotter Ministries externally as delegated by the CEO
Schedule & Compensation:
• Full-Time, Exempt
• Competitive Executive Compensation, Based on Experience
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, social services, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 7–10+ years of senior operational leadership experience, preferably within nonprofit, human services, healthcare, or ministry settings
• Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-department or multi-site operations
• Strong financial and operational acumen
• Proven ability to lead teams, execute strategy, and drive accountability
• Demonstrated alignment with Christian faith and Mel Trotter Ministries’ mission and values
Preferred:
• Prior experience serving as an EOS Integrator or within an EOS-run organization
• Experience in homelessness services, recovery programs, or community-based social services
• Proven success in organizational change management and systems development
