General Labor - 3PM-11:30PM
Position Summary
The Pallet & Crate Builder is responsible for constructing wooden pallets, boxes, and shipping crates by hand to support the packaging and transportation of finished glass products. This position works within a manufacturing environment and uses hand and power tools to build custom and standard shipping containers that meet quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and capable of performing physical labor in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build wooden pallets, crates, and shipping boxes according to specifications and production schedules.
- Measure, cut, and assemble lumber using hand tools and power tools such as nail guns, saws, drills, and hammers.
- Read and interpret work orders, drawings, and packaging requirements.
- Inspect completed pallets and crates for quality, accuracy, and structural integrity.
- Assist in packaging and securing glass products for shipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on tools and equipment.
- Load, move, and stack lumber and finished products as needed.
- Collaborate with production, shipping, and warehouse teams to meet customer requirements.
- Report material shortages, equipment issues, or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Support other manufacturing and packaging operations as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, construction, carpentry, packaging, or warehouse experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and varying temperatures.
- Manual dexterity required for handling tools, lumber, and fasteners.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Work Environment
- Industrial glass manufacturing facility.
- Exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, wood dust, and glass products.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, gloves, and other safety equipment as required.
