CNC Machinist 

Express Employment is working with a manufacturing company in the Rochester area actively hiring experienced CNC Machinists!


This role is ideal for a highly skilled machinist who can work independently to machine complex, high-precision components using CNC mills and lathes.

The ideal candidate has strong programming and setup experience, a deep understanding of tight tolerances, and the ability to troubleshoot and adapt in a fast-paced, low-volume environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components
  • Machine prototype and production parts independently, making adjustments as needed
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and technical specifications
  • Determine machining methods, tooling, sequence of operations, and tolerances
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Perform troubleshooting and optimize machining processes
  • Design and fabricate tooling and fixtures for milling and turning operations
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.)
  • Interpret and work from CMM inspection reports
  • Estimate machining time and process steps for new or revised parts
  • Work with a variety of materials and understand machining characteristics
  • Perform limited surface grinding as needed
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other teams to improve manufacturability and design
  • Recommend process, tooling, and efficiency improvements
  • Support training and mentoring of other machinists as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a CNC Machinist
  • 2+ years of CNC programming experience
  • Experience working in a prototype or low-volume manufacturing environment
  • Technical machining training or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Strong experience with CNC mills and lathes

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in CNC programming software
  • Ability to machine to extremely tight tolerances (±0.0001”)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong math skills (algebra, geometry, trigonometry)
  • Experience with precision measurement and inspection techniques
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet production deadlines
