Job Title: Green Chain Puller
Position Summary
The Green Chain Puller is a critical, entry-level production role responsible for manual labor at the tail end of the sawmill process. This position requires pulling, sorting, and stacking freshly cut ("green") lumber from a moving conveyor chain according to specific grades, sizes, and lengths. This is a fast-paced, high-physicality position that requires exceptional stamina, attention to detail, and a strict commitment to safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lumber Sorting & Pulling: Manually pull dimensional lumber from a moving chain, sorting it by size, length, and grade.
Stacking: Organize and stack lumber into designated carts, units, or bunk spaces, ensuring proper alignment and height.
Quality Control: Inspect lumber for defects, improper cuts, or grade inconsistencies, removing sub-par pieces from the chain.
Sticker Placement: Place spacing sticks ("stickers") between layers of lumber to ensure proper drying and stability.
Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to all company, OSHA, and environmental regulations, including lock-out/tag-out procedures.
Housekeeping & Maintenance: Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including sweeping, shoveling wood chips, and removing debris during downtime.
Team Communication: Work cohesively with fellow team members and supervisors to maintain efficient production flow.
Qualifications
Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
Experience: Prior experience in a lumber mill, sawmill, or heavy industrial environment is preferred but not required.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and crouching for a 10+ hour shift.
Lifting Capacity: Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 45+ pounds and occasionally lift 75+ pounds.
Environmental Factors: Ability to work in a loud environment, often exposed to varying outside weather conditions.
Screening: Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Required Skills
Ability to learn and distinguish various lumber sizes and grades quickly.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Standing/Walking: Continually required to stand and walk.
