Position: Packager
Position Summary
Packagers are responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient packaging of powder-coated products to meet customer specifications and company quality standards. They work under the supervision of the Packaging Manager to ensure all products are protected, correctly labeled, and ready for shipping or pickup. The role emphasizes attention to detail, physical stamina, teamwork, and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Operations
Thoroughly read and understand each work order before beginning packaging to ensure all specifications, instructions, and special handling requirements are followed.
Prepare and protect powder-coated products for shipment using appropriate materials such as foam, cardboard, paper wrap, shrink wrap, crates, pallets, and custom protective solutions.
Ensure all parts are packaged to prevent damage, scratches, dents, or other defects during handling and transportation.
Inspect parts for cleanliness and quality prior to packaging.
Apply labels, documentation, and any special handling instructions correctly.
Assist in staging packaged items for shipping or pickup according to schedule.
Workflow & Coordination
Follow directions from the Packaging Manager regarding daily job assignments and priorities.
Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, and Shipping & Receiving to ensure smooth workflow.
Report any packaging challenges, material shortages, or potential quality issues to the Packaging Manager.
Materials & Equipment Handling
Use packaging tools and equipment safely and correctly (shrink-wrap machines, pallet jacks, banders, tape dispensers, etc.).
Maintain an organized and clean packaging workspace.
Report low inventory of packaging materials and assist with material organization.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere to all OSHA, safety, and company protocols while performing packaging tasks.
Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free packaging area.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Packaging Accuracy: Percentage of orders packaged without error (target: 98–100%).
Damage Rate: Number of packaging-related damages reported (goal: near zero).
On-Time Completion: Percentage of jobs packaged according to schedule.
Workplace Safety: Zero safety incidents in the packaging area.
Material Usage Efficiency: Minimal waste of packaging materials.
Required Qualifications
Previous experience in packaging, warehouse operations, or manufacturing preferred.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and thoroughly read and understand each work order.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in metal fabrication, powder coating, or industrial finishing environments.
Basic knowledge of palletizing and load securement.
Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain).
