Assistant Finance Director (Succession Track)
Location: Haslet, TX
Reports to: Finance Director
Role Overview: This is a strategic leadership-track position. You will work directly under the Finance Director to manage the city’s fiscal operations with the explicit goal of transitioning into the Director role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage general ledger activities, including month-end and year-end closings.
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of the annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
- Lead the coordination of the annual external audit and ensure compliance with GASB standards and state regulations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and investment reports.
- Assist in overseeing city investments, bond issuances, and debt service schedules.
- Manage the financial administration of Public Improvement Districts (PIDs) and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones (TIRZ).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Public Administration (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in governmental accounting or high-level corporate finance.
- Strong understanding of GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) principles and Texas municipal law a plus.
Successor Skills
- Ability to represent the Finance Department in meetings and work with various Department Heads.
- Ability to move beyond data entry to analyze long-term fiscal impacts of city growth.
- High level of discretion and professional ethics required for public office.
