Job Full Description
Express Employment Professionals of Everett is hiring a Floater Shelter Assistant for a homeless shelter in Everett. This is a long-term position that is great for someone with a flexible schedule who is open to taking overnight on short notice. The shift is 11 p.m. - 7:15 a.m. with starting pay at $18 - $20 per hour.
The Shelter assistant provides essential support to clients and the shelter by being on site and ensuring clients sleeping overnight are following guidelines, answering questions, and monitoring for safety. The floater trains so that they can be available for last-minute call-outs. We are looking for someone who is great with people and is safety minded. There are physical aspects to the job, so candidates must be able to lift while going up and downstairs. The primary duties are listed below.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients who stay overnight at the shelter
- Set up and take down rooms, including moving fold-up beds and carrying buckets of water up and down stairs
- Help with client intake
- Provide daily support to shelter residents by answering questions
- Ensure the safety, comfort, and welfare of shelter residents
- Maintain a friendly and positive demeanor, handling conflicts and asking clients to leave if they are not following rules or being disruptive
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and positive attitude
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as moving beds and carrying water
- Conflict resolution skills
- Flexibility to work swing/overnight shifts on an as-needed basis
