Job Full Description
Express Employment Professionals of Everett is hiring a Shelter Assistant for a homeless shelter in Everett. This is a long-term opportunity ideal for someone with a flexible schedule who is available to work overnight shifts on short notice. The shift runs from 11 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with a starting pay of $18 to $20 per hour, depending on experience.
The Shelter Assistant provides essential support to both clients and shelter operations. This role ensures that overnight guests are safe, supported, and following shelter guidelines. You will be as assigned a schedule and trained to fill in for last-minute call-outs, so reliability and adaptability are key. We are seeking someone who is personable, safety-minded, and physically capable of handling the demands of the job.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients staying overnight at the shelter
- Set up and take down sleeping areas, including moving fold-up beds and carrying buckets of water up and down stairs
- Support client intake and check-in
- Provide general assistance and answer questions from shelter residents
- Monitor and ensure the safety, comfort, and welfare of all clients
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor while addressing conflicts and enforcing shelter rules
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional attitude
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and navigating stairs
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- Flexibility to work overnight and swing shifts on an as-needed basis
