Express Employment Professionals of Everett is hiring several Shelter Assistant for a homeless shelter in Everett. This is a long-term opportunity ideal for someone with a flexible schedule who has a compassionate personality and would like to help people in our community.
We have several schedule opportunities available:
Day Shift: Saturday and Sunday 7:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Swing Shift: Thursday - Sunday 3:00 p.m. - 11:15 p.m.
Overnight Shift: Thursday - Sunday 11:00 p.m. - 7:15 a.m.
The Shelter Assistant provides essential support to both clients and shelter operations. This role ensures that overnight guests are safe, supported, and following shelter guidelines. You will be as assigned a schedule and trained to fill in for last-minute call-outs, so reliability and adaptability are key. We are seeking someone who is personable, safety-minded, and physically capable of handling the demands of the job.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients staying overnight at the shelter
- Set up and take down sleeping areas, including moving fold-up beds and carrying buckets of water up and down stairs
- Support client intake and check-in
- Provide general assistance and answer questions from shelter residents
- Monitor and ensure the safety, comfort, and welfare of all clients
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor while addressing conflicts and enforcing shelter rules
- Janitorial duties including cleaning bathrooms
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional attitude
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and navigating stairs
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- Flexibility to work overnight and swing shifts on an as-needed basis
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
