Job Full Description
We are currently seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Financial Advocate to join the front-line team of a trusted medical provider in Spokane, WA. This important position helps ensure financial transparency and supports patients in understanding and managing the costs of their healthcare.
You’ll play a key role in guiding patients through insurance coverage, financial assistance programs, and payment planning—reducing stress and helping patients focus on healing.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Insurance Verification & Coverage Education

Confirm patient insurance eligibility prior to treatment or procedures

Educate patients on their benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and coverage limitations

Obtain pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed
🔹 Financial Interviews & Needs Assessment

Meet with patients and/or family members to assess financial circumstances

Determine eligibility for state and federal aid (Medicaid, Medicare), hospital charity care, or sliding scale options
🔹 Cost Estimates & Payment Planning

Provide patients with out-of-pocket cost estimates

Assist in setting up payment arrangements or financial assistance plans

Offer guidance on payment options, deposits, and timelines
🔹 Application & Program Support
🔹 Billing Support & Resolution

Review and negotiate outstanding balances with patients

Act as liaison between patients, billing teams, and insurers to resolve errors or disputes
🔹 Compliance & Documentation

Stay current on hospital policy, insurance changes, and financial assistance rules

Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and financial agreements
🔹 Advocacy & Patient Support

Explain billing statements and insurance EOBs in clear, patient-friendly terms

Help reduce "financial toxicity" by offering guidance and emotional support during financial discussions
Ideal Candidate Profile

Previous experience in healthcare financial counseling, medical billing, or insurance coordination preferred

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with patients facing financial stress

High attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality

Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and other financial assistance programs a plus

Proficient in navigating billing systems and patient financial software
-
Empathetic, patient-centered mindset with a solution-oriented approach
