Job Full Description

Job Summary: The Assembler I performs repetitive bench type assembly operations to mass produce radiator cores. The Assembler receives specific work assignments under general supervision and resolves most problems with some supervisory assistance. All work is subject to final inspection and test to insure that the final product meets customer requirements and to control excess labor and material expense. The Assembler is expected to practice and adhere to the Company’s Six Sigma principles.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Reviews job orders (written or verbal).

  • Selects and assembles proper materials and parts

  • Assembles cores by performing various manual tasks including:

  • Inserting fins into fin table; inserting tubes into fins to create core blocks

  • Operating bake oven

  • Attaching headers on cores (with mallet)

  • Using fin comb and torch to straighten fins (or by hand); repairing fin gaps

  • Using high pressure wash to clean cores
  • Inspects cores for imperfections; prepares/attached core tags

  • Cleans and maintains work area (daily), core building equipment and other tools of the trade.

  • Works in a safe manner at all times.

  • Insures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to ISO and Quality standards.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 100 (infrequently, assisted lifting), 50 (occasionally), 25 (frequently).

  • Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 100 with assistance.

  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body; infrequent sitting. 

  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Work location: Metal fabrication/assembly shop including oven area.

  • Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts.

  • Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes.

  • Hours are 1:30pm-12:00am M-Thursday

Position Requirements:

Key skills, abilities and knowledge:

  • Ability to read and understand job requirements, shop drawings, and bills of lading.

  • Knowledge of properties of core materials, structural metals and related materials (OJT).

  • Skill in operating and maintaining core materials, structural metals etc.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.

 

  • Experience: One or more years of manufacturing or related experience is desirable. 

  • Educational: Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.

  • Certificates, Licenses: Forklift operator certification desirable but not essential

Must be able to work 10-hour days and have the availability to work half day on Saturdays if necessary.
