2nd Shift Coil Processor
Our client in the Rockford area, a leader in steel manufacturing, is looking for a Coil Processor to join their growing team. In this role you will be responsible for the receipt, handling, preparation, and processing of metal coils (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.) for production, shipment, or further manufacturing operations. This position works Mon-Fri 2:30PM-11:30PM but training will start Mon-Fri 6AM-3PM then move to 12PM-8PM until moved to normal shift hours with a pay of $18.00 per hour. Job Responsibilities:
- Unload, inspect, and stage incoming metal coils; verify material type, weight, dimensions, and any identity tags.
- Operate coil processing equipment (such as de-coilers, slitters, re-coilers, levelers, cut-to-length machines) to process coils as required.
- Set up, align and adjust machinery for slitting, leveling, rewinding or cutting coils to specified widths/lengths.
- Monitor equipment during operation, watch for defects, ensure output meets job specifications and quality standards.
- Record production data: coil start and end times, quantities processed, scrap or defects, run logs.
- Maintain accurate identification and tracking of coils throughout processing (material tags, work orders).
- Perform routine housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance of coil processing area and equipment (grease, oil, inspect safety devices, remove debris).
- May assist with loading/unloading coils, operating forklifts or overhead cranes if certified, stacking/unstacking coils, and assisting with other processing tasks as required.
Job Qualifications:
- Prior experience in coil processing, slit-line operation, or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to safely handle heavy coil product (often several thousand lbs) and work with lifting equipment (cranes, hoists, forklifts)
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to set up and adjust coil processing equipment.
- Basic math skills (measurements, widths, tolerances) and ability to read job orders/specifications.
- Good communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with other departments.
- Physical stamina: standing for long periods, climbing, bending, lifting up to company-specified limits, working in a noisy/machine environment.
- Basic computer skills to log production data or track coil inventory.
