The Automotive Service Sales Team Leader is responsible for leading, motivating, and developing a customer-facing sales team within the Service Department. This role blends hands-on sales, customer relationship management, and team leadership to drive service revenue, improve customer retention, and ensure an exceptional service experience. The Team Leader sets the standard for professionalism, productivity, and adherence to dealership processes.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Leadership
- Lead by example in selling automotive services, repairs, and maintenance packages
- Drive achievement of department sales goals, average repair order (ARO), and customer pay revenue
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement action plans to improve results
- Identify opportunities to increase service penetration through maintenance menus, inspections, and customer education
Team Leadership & Development
- Coach, mentor, and train Service Advisors or sales team members to improve sales effectiveness and customer communication
- Assist with onboarding and ongoing training for new team members
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
- Foster a positive, accountable, and customer-focused team culture
Customer Experience
- Ensure exceptional customer service standards are consistently met
- Resolve escalated customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Support advisors in handling complex estimates, approvals, and follow-ups
- Reinforce transparent communication and trust-building with customers
Operational Support
- Collaborate with Service Manager, technicians, and parts personnel to ensure efficient workflow
- Ensure compliance with dealership policies, warranty guidelines, and manufacturer standards
- Assist in scheduling, workload balancing, and daily service operations as needed
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
Qualifications
Required:
- 2+ years of experience in automotive service sales (Service Advisor or similar role)
- Proven ability to meet or exceed sales and customer satisfaction goals
- Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
- Solid understanding of automotive maintenance and repair services
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced service environment
- Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS) and CRM tools
Preferred:
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience
- Automotive certifications or manufacturer training
- Experience with performance reporting and KPI tracking
