Position Overview
The Veterinary Technician will assist veterinarians in providing medical care, surgical support, and client communication. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and compassion for animals in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor vital signs including temperature, pulse, and respiration
- Administer medications, vaccines, and injections (IM, IV, Subcutaneous)
- Collect and prepare diagnostic samples (blood, urine, fecal) and run routine lab tests
- Assist with anesthesia administration and surgical preparation under veterinarian supervision
- Provide emergency care, including airway management, oxygen administration, CPR, bleeding control, and splint/bandage application
- Schedule and prepare for spay/neuter and other surgical procedures
- Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Maintain controlled drug logs and ensure proper inventory management
- Safely restrain, monitor, quarantine, and care for animals
- Assist with euthanasia procedures in a humane and professional manner
- Communicate clearly with pet owners regarding care instructions and treatment plans
- Participate in community outreach and represent the organization positively
- Perform general support duties including meetings, training, and team assistance
Qualifications
- Experience as a Veterinary Technician or similar role preferred
- Knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and handling techniques for cats and dogs
- Understanding of anesthesia practices and aseptic surgical techniques
- Familiarity with diagnostic testing and laboratory procedures
- Ability to safely restrain animals and respond to emergency situations
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Basic computer and clerical skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment
