Manufacturing Methods Designer
Location: Watkins Glen, NY
Pay: $23–$25 per hour, based on experience

Our client, a precision manufacturing company in Watkins Glen, NY, is seeking a Manufacturing Methods Designer to support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes. This role is ideal for someone who excels at process optimization, cross-functional collaboration, and driving production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Design & Improvement

  • Develop and document new manufacturing processes

  • Optimize existing processes to increase productivity and reduce waste

  • Apply lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies

Tooling & Equipment Selection

  • Specify and assist in the design of tools, jigs, fixtures, and production machinery

  • Evaluate and recommend automation and process enhancement solutions

Product Design Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers and product designers to ensure manufacturability (Design for Manufacturability - DFM)

  • Provide feedback to improve design feasibility and production efficiency

Prototyping & Testing

  • Oversee prototype builds and pilot production runs

  • Analyze test results and refine manufacturing methods accordingly

Documentation & Standards

  • Create and maintain detailed process documentation, work instructions, and specifications

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards

Cost Estimation & Feasibility

  • Estimate production costs and timelines

  • Conduct feasibility studies for new products or proposed process changes

Technology Research

  • Stay informed on emerging manufacturing technologies such as CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and robotics

  • Recommend new tools or technologies to improve efficiency and production quality

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA)

  • Experience with simulation and process analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Arena)

  • Familiarity with ERP and MES systems

  • Strong understanding of materials, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
