Express Employment is seeking a proactive and people-focused HR Coordinator. This is for a locally owned business. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about employee experience, process improvement, and fostering a respectful, high-functioning workplace. While this role does not involve payroll or benefits administration, you’ll be a central figure in shaping HR policies, optimizing people processes, and guiding leadership in best practices. You’ll report directly to the business owners and serve as the go-to HR resource for our team.

Key Responsibilities
- Policy Development & Updates: Maintain and improve company policies to ensure clarity, compliance, fairness, and scalability.
- Staff Engagement Systems: Design and manage systems for employee feedback, including performance reviews, training surveys, and anonymous reporting tools.
- Leadership Coaching: Partner with leadership to develop management skills and provide guidance on people-related challenges.
- Process Improvement: Streamline and enhance HR systems to create a user-friendly and efficient experience for both staff and managers.
- Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted resource for staff, offering support while balancing employee and business needs.
- Recruitment Support: Assist with job postings, screening, and onboarding to ensure an inclusive and welcoming experience.
- Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to employment laws and workplace conduct standards.
What This Role Is NOT
- Not responsible for payroll or benefits administration (managed by external vendors).
- Not a company policy decision-maker (advises leadership but does not set company-wide strategy).
- Not a full-cycle recruiter (supports but does not lead all hiring efforts).
- Not responsible for IT, facilities, or office management.
- Not a legal counsel (ensures compliance but does not provide legal advice).
About You
- 3–5 years of HR experience, preferably within a small business or flat organizational structure.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business-related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust across all levels.
- Confident in advising leadership and making sound, independent recommendations.
- Knowledge of—or willingness to quickly learn—Oregon employment law.
- Professional, discreet, and comfortable handling sensitive information.
- Skilled at creating and refining simple, practical systems.
- Experienced in navigating conflict and ambiguity.
- Proficient in MS Office and HR tools such as BambooHR.
- Physically able to sit and type for up to 8 hours per day and occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.
- Comfortable working in an office environment with dogs and the occasional foster kitten.
