Seasonal Parks Maintenance Position
This is a F/T SEASONAL temporary position in Ashland. Areas of responsibility could include any of the following: golf course maintenance, parks maintenance and facilities maintenance. Position will start in April and could last up to six month.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The duties listed below are only intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Applicants must be able and willing to perform ALL of these job functions to be considered for Seasonal Parks Maintenance positions.
- Maintain grounds at park facilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance activities including blowing, raking, and loading leaves; piling and removing brush and debris
- Occasional maintenance of public restroom facilities
- Empties trash receptacles and picks up scattered litter throughout Ashland parks and facilities
- Assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems
- Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities and grounds
- Adheres to all safety regulations, rules and procedures established for work areas
- Works effectively with other Parks employees and the general public in providing customer service
- Tree pruning and chipping bush
- Maintain turf areas and non-turf areas such as sand traps, bunkers and landscaped areas.
- Change cups on greens and tee markers.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including, removal of invasive weeds, pruning, raking, removing brush and debris, digging, planting, and other general maintenance tasks.
- Assist with gardening tasks including hand-weeding, minor irrigation repair, plant care and transplanting.
- Perform minor maintenance such as cleaning windows, painting, changing overhead lights and small plumbing repairs as needed.
- Experience and ability to use brooms, mops, and basic hand tools
- Experience with proper methods for application of typical custodial cleaning chemicals
AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist with care and maintenance of hand tools.
- Assist with cleaning and organization of work areas and sheds.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently or with others
- Must be outgoing and willing to engage with park visitors
- Responsive to verbal and written direction in order to prioritize and execute daily tasks.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment with exposure to various weather conditions as well as exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, chemicals, and other environmental substances; incumbents may work in or around water, dirt, oil, grease, or fumes, may have to travel to and from various job sites, and may require some exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Mobility: frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting and kneeling, push, pull and grasp, lift and carry on both the right and left sides working in awkward positions; able to frequently reach, lift and carry above shoulders; frequent performance of heavy manual labor; occasional sitting, climbing.
- Lifting: frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting over 50 pounds.
- Vision: constant use of overall vision; use of vision to identify mechanical problems; occasional use of color vision.
- Dexterity: occasional grasping, holding, and reaching; occasional use of touch only to perform work.
- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person; use of hearing to recognize mechanical problems.
- Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone.
Availability
- Must be able to work weekend, holiday, and evening hours.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in using hand tools and power tools.
- Successful candidates must have a combination of skills, knowledge and training that will enable the performance of the responsibilities outlined above.
- Valid Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of hire.
- Experience in using hand tools and power tools. Experience using tractors w/ implements, lawn mowers, edgers, rototillers, chain saws, and other basic power equipment
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least one-year experience in park maintenance or similar work environment that required the use of tools and equipment to perform maintenance duties.
