Join Our Team as a CDL Class A Driver!
We are seeking a safety-focused and dependable CDL Class A Driver to join our team. This position is responsible for safely transporting commodities between local scrap yards, customer locations, vendors, and project sites while ensuring vehicles and equipment remain in safe operating condition. Drivers can expect a variety of routes and work locations throughout the Portland metro area and surrounding communities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections on assigned tractors, trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Ensure proper tie-down equipment, chains, binders, and torque bars are available and in good condition.
- Complete required Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) accurately and honestly in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Submit completed inspection reports to dispatch at the end of each shift.
- Immediately communicate any safety concerns or urgent repair needs to dispatch.
- Utilize handheld dispatch devices to review and complete assigned pickups and deliveries.
- Coordinate with dispatch regarding load information, scheduling, and route questions.
- Safely transport and deliver commodities to customer locations, vendors, and company facilities.
- Complete post-trip inspections on all vehicles and equipment used during the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned trucks and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A).
- Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and equipment.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and vehicle inspection requirements.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities throughout the day.
- Commitment to safety and compliance procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequent use of hands for handling equipment, completing paperwork, and operating vehicle controls.
- Ability to enter and exit commercial vehicles multiple times per shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
Work Environment:
- Regular travel between local scrap yards, customer sites, vendors, and project locations.
- Work is performed in a variety of environments, including customer facilities and industrial settings.
- Routes and locations may vary based on customer needs and project deadlines.
