Job Title: Shuttle Driver

 

Summary

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for safely operating a shuttle van in support of auto haulers within the designated terminal yard. This role ensures the efficient flow of vehicles, supports dispatch operations, and maintains a safe and clean work environment according to established policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Start of Shift

  • Report to supervisor and clock in.

  • Perform daily shuttle van safety check and report discrepancies to supervisor:

    • Check oil, antifreeze, belts, hoses, and leaks.

    • Test lights, flashers, beacon, wipers, and horn.

    • Inspect tires for inflation, cuts, and tread.

    • Ensure windows are clear of frost/snow.

Inventory/Supplies

  • Maintain clipboard/log, trash bag, water, cooler with ice, and communication device.

  • Keep maps of yard available as needed.

Shuttling

  • Assist auto haulers in locating units for loading.

  • Follow yard rules:

    • Maximum 15 MPH speed.

    • Flashers on at all times.

    • Sound horn twice before backing; avoid backing when possible.

  • Position shuttle safely for driver access.

  • Maintain cleanliness of shuttle: remove trash, return supplies, and secure vehicle at end of shift.

Yard Maintenance

  • Maintain yard cleanliness and report issues to supervisor.

  • Remove straps, rubber blocks, and debris as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Report any problems to supervisor immediately.

  • Perform daily inventory checks and control.

  • Conduct load audits (check skid extension, pinning of decks, strap placement, securement, height stick usage).

  • Complete other duties as assigned by management.
