Industrial Sewer / Sewing Technician – Awning Manufacturing
Location: West Warwick, RI
Pay: 20+hr./DOE
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sewer (Sewing Technician) to join our awning manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating industrial sewing machines and working with heavy-duty fabrics such as canvas, vinyl, and other outdoor materials. This role is critical in producing high-quality custom awnings, canopies, and related products.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines to construct awnings, canopies, and related fabric products
- Read and interpret patterns, templates, and work orders
- Measure, cut, and assemble fabric components according to specifications
- Sew seams, hems, reinforcements, and attachments with precision and consistency
- Install grommets, webbing, zippers, or straps as required
- Inspect finished products for quality, durability, and accuracy
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform basic machine maintenance and report any mechanical issues
- Work collaboratively with production staff to meet deadlines
Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial sewing, upholstery, or similar fabrication preferred
- Ability to work with heavy-duty fabrics such as canvas, vinyl, or acrylic materials
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to read measurements and follow written and verbal instructions
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and handling large fabric pieces
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25–40 lbs occasionally
- Frequent standing, bending, and reaching
- Manual dexterity for detailed sewing work
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience in awning, marine, or upholstery sewing
- Familiarity with patterns and fabrication drawings
- Basic knowledge of industrial sewing machine maintenance
Work Environment
- Fast-paced manufacturing setting
- Temperature may vary depending on season
- Safety gear required as applicable
