Tool & Die Maker
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tool & Die Maker to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with carbide dies and tooling, and the ability to read drawings and use precision measuring instruments. This position plays an important role in supporting production by ensuring tooling is properly manufactured, maintained, organized, and available when needed.
Key Responsibilities
The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for ensuring that all tooling is available, properly maintained, organized, and ready to support production. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to meet production timelines are essential for success in this role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manufacture and alter carbide dies according to drawings and specifications.
- Assemble carbide dies into die casings using a hydraulic press.
- Complete tooling projects accurately and efficiently to support scheduled production runs.
- Modify and repair miscellaneous punches, sleeves, pins, and general machine parts.
- Work closely with management and machine operators to troubleshoot production and tooling issues.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of materials needed for in-house tooling, including raw materials, honing stones, cutting tools, and other supplies.
- Keep tooling clean, organized, properly labeled, and stored for easy access.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of tooling manufactured by outside vendors.
- Monitor tooling supplies and ensure the shop has sufficient general tooling to meet production requirements.
- Operate and maintain various machine shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow all company safety and quality procedures.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school or technical training is a plus.
Qualifications & Work Experience
- 3+ years of Tool & Die Maker experience preferred.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments, including:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Dial indicators
- Experience operating:
- Lathes
- Milling machines
- Honing machines
- Surface grinders
- Strong math skills and attention to detail.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Fundamental understanding of tool steels and their applications.
- Strong organizational skills, particularly in maintaining tool room inventory.
- Ability to troubleshoot tooling and production issues.
- Dependable team player with a strong commitment to quality.
- Ability to prioritize work based on production needs and scheduled runs.
