Job Full Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Produces manufactured parts and routinely inspects parts to ensure high quality. Inserts stock piece, closes door, punches appropriate controls to start and stop the process. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Removes debris with compressed air as needed between steps. Grinds or removes burrs on finished parts.
  1. Measures workpiece for conformance to specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometer, or plug gauge provided. Notifies Cell Leader of any discrepancies or offset adjustments needed to improve the machining operations. The Cell Leader is responsible for making the changes or assigning it to an Operator II.
  1. Reviews blueprints and method sheets to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpiece.
  1. Working this cell includes operating the press machine on parts. Washing and rustproofing finished parts and packaging into containers for shipping.
  1. Offers suggestions to make improvements to product flow and/or processes whenever possible.
  1. Performs daily maintenance to ensure equipment and work area are always clean and organized.
  1. Maybe trained in changing tools, making offset adjustments, and verifying changes to progress to Operator II. This training is under the supervision of the Cell Leader only.
  1. May be crossed-trained to run CNC Milling/Turning center machines.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education and 3+ years machining related experience. Completion of shop certificate program at technical college and 1+ years related experience. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret single piece blueprints and method sheets and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate problems and malfunctions clearly to supervision.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables where, occasionally, only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Mechanical aptitude. The ability to establish and sustain harmonious working relations and to communicate effectively with customers and employees at all levels is essential to accomplishment of primary responsibilities.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms while working at a quick pace. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may regularly use a pallet jack/cart to move 100 pounds and occasionally move up to 400 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance, with rare unscheduled absences and tardies and no extended absences beyond about a month is critical to maintenance of efficient plant operations and meeting scheduled product delivery dates.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
