Summary:
Direct Care Staff have the opportunity to directly impact minors/teenage girls on a day to day basis. Through the knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served, direct care staff will be able to set behavioral limits, provide stability, encourage the development of life skills, model a healthy approach to respond to problems in life, and create a successful transition into adulthood.
Duties:
Providing adequate care and direct supervision of minors/NMDS
Ensuring the health and safety of minors at all times
Assisting in handling problems when they arise, whether individually or in a group setting needed.
Assisting with ensuring the minors have access to core services and supports.
Ensuring daily activities are provided to the minors
Identifying needs for additional services, such as emotional, social, and behavioral supports.
Documenting the progress and/ concerns of the minors
Communication identifying concerns to professional staff.
Reporting to the facility manager and making recommendations to address identified problems.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance on personal vehicle with coverage of $100,000 / $300,000 / $100,000
- MUST have ONE of the following qualifications:
- Bachelors of Arts or Science degree
- Child Development Teaching Permit 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development. Foster and Kinship Care Education, or Psychology and have completed a minimum of 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth
- Valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have completed a minimum of 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth
- Valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have a minimum of 100 hours experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined
- Previously been employed as a full time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year
- Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma or other relevant experience as determined.
