Team Supervision:
Oversee the team working the night shift, ensuring they are following protocols and maintaining productivity.
Provide leadership and guidance, ensuring staff is motivated and adhering to safety standards.
Handle any staffing issues (e.g., absenteeism, performance issues) that may arise during the night.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all employees are following safety regulations, wearing proper protective gear, and working in a safe environment.
Monitor and respond to safety incidents, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
Conduct safety inspections, fire drills, or any emergency procedures as required.
Operations Monitoring:
Oversee the machinery and equipment used in the recycling process, ensuring everything is functioning properly.
Troubleshoot any technical problems and work with maintenance teams to address issues promptly.
Monitor the throughput of materials to ensure production targets are being met.
Reporting:
Track and report on the progress of the recycling operation, including quantities of materials processed, machine uptime, and any issues that arise.
Maintain accurate shift logs and report any incidents, accidents, or equipment malfunctions.
Prepare a report for the day shift supervisor, highlighting key developments and challenges encountered during the night.
Material Handling:
Ensure that raw materials are being sorted and processed correctly.
Oversee the proper storage of processed materials before they are sent for further processing or shipment.
Communication:
Communicate with other departments, such as maintenance or quality control, to address any issues or challenges.
Ensure the flow of information from night shift to day shift is clear and efficient, including any issues that need resolution.
Problem Solving:
Address any issues that arise, whether it’s a machine breakdown, a personnel issue, or an operational challenge.
Make quick decisions, often under pressure, to minimize downtime and keep operations moving smoothly.
Leadership & Communication Skills: Ability to manage a diverse team, communicate effectively, and handle conflicts or issues that arise during the shift.
Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with safety regulations and practices, especially in an industrial setting like a recycling plant.
Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making skills to quickly resolve issues and keep the plant running efficiently.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of machinery, equipment, and the recycling process.
Flexibility: Ability to adapt to the unique challenges that come with working the night shift.
Overnight Operations: The plant operates in the evening, so dealing with staff fatigue, maintaining energy levels, and managing communication between shifts can be difficult.
