Job Overview:

The Yard Checker is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles within the auction yard are properly logged, identified, and organized for upcoming auctions. This role involves frequent outdoor work, as well as coordination with other staff members to maintain accurate inventory and smooth operations. Yard Checkers play a critical role in ensuring that the vehicles are easily accessible for preview, inspection, and auction processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Vehicle Inspection & Documentation:

  • Inspect vehicles in the yard and ensure each is properly identified, tagged, and logged in the system.
  • Record and track vehicle condition, mileage, and other important details.
  • Verify VIN numbers, license plates, and other relevant information to ensure accuracy.

• Yard Organization:

  • Maintain proper vehicle organization within the auction yard to ensure easy access and visibility for buyers and staff.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining vehicle sections based on make, model, or auction date.
  • Ensure that vehicles are staged appropriately for preview and auction day.

• Customer Service:

  • Assist auction participants, such as buyers, sellers, and dealers, by providing information about vehicles in the yard.
  • Address any issues or questions regarding vehicle locations and availability.

• Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment within the yard.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked and handled according to company policies and local regulations.

• Inventory Control:

  • Help maintain an accurate inventory of vehicles and other auction-related assets.
  • Notify supervisors of any discrepancies or issues related to vehicle information.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in an automotive environment, warehouse, or inventory management is a plus.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to use inventory management software (training provided).
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and move around the yard for long periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist in vehicle movement when needed.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate various types of vehicles in the yard.
