Job Full Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Fitter to support the fabrication and assembly of large, complex steel structures. This role is critical to ensuring components are accurately cut, prepared, aligned, and fitted according to engineering drawings and weld specifications prior to final welding. The ideal candidate has strong blueprint-reading skills, hands-on fabrication experience, and the ability to work with heavy industrial materials and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
• Fit and assemble complex, large-scale steel structures in accordance with engineering drawings, weld maps, and specifications
• Plan and execute work orders by reviewing instructions, identifying required tools, materials, and processes prior to fabrication
• Perform torch cutting and beveling operations to prepare materials for fit-up and welding
• Conduct pre-fit welding tasks, including filling fit gaps and building up edges as required to achieve proper alignment
• Grind materials for weld preparation, surface preparation, and part preparation to ensure proper fit
• Accurately mark fit-up structures with correct weld joint identification per weld maps and drawings before components move into the welding sequence
• Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and fabrication documents
• Prepare, assemble, align, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded
• Utilize common fabrication shop equipment and tools to complete assigned work efficiently and accurately
• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib hoists to move materials and assemblies safely
• Inspect equipment and materials during use and report defective materials or faulty equipment to supervision
• Perform additional fabrication-related duties as assigned to support production needs
Qualifications
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
• Willing to submit to drug and background screening
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication and fitting processes
• Experience with torch cutting, grinding, fitting, and tack welding
• Familiarity with fabrication shop equipment and material handling systems
• Ability to perform precision work requiring manual dexterity and steady hand control
• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 70 pounds• Ability to navigate a manufacturing environment, including climbing, balancing, stooping, walking, and handling materials
