Packaging Team Lead – Job Description
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Location: Vineland, NJ
Job Summary
The Packaging Team Lead supports the Production Supervisor in ensuring all packaging operations meet safety, quality, efficiency, and waste-reduction targets. This role oversees packaging employees, coordinates production activities, and maintains smooth and compliant line operations during the shift.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Monitor and control all Critical Control Points (CCPs) in accordance with established procedures.
- Coordinate line start-ups, changeovers, and adjustments to maintain optimal production flow.
- Quickly identify and communicate deviations from standard procedures to the supervisor.
- Ensure continuous packaging line performance with an emphasis on efficiency, quality, and product safety.
- Address and minimize equipment stoppages; ensure lockout procedures are followed during downtime.
- Maintain proper supply levels of raw materials, components, and packaging items.
Team Management
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels at start-up and throughout the shift; notify supervisor of shortages or overstaffing.
- Oversee all packaging employee activities, including breaks and task assignments.
- Verify all employees are adequately trained for assigned duties.
- Foster a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete all required daily production paperwork accurately.
- Communicate operational or mechanical issues to the supervisor and maintenance team promptly.
- Collaborate with maintenance and quality departments to meet production targets.
Other Duties
- Perform all tasks associated with the role and support continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Interpersonal Skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of directing staff.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of GMPs and food safety requirements.
- Strong understanding of packaging processes and equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Minitab and SAP preferred.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years in the food industry.
- Minimum 2 years in an operations or production environment.
