Overview
The Skid Operator is responsible for safely building, staging, and transporting skids used to support steel coils, sheets, and bundles throughout the warehouse. This role supports production, packaging, and shipping operations by ensuring materials are properly prepared, moved, and stored according to company and customer requirements.
🛠 Key Responsibilities
Skid Building & Preparation
• Build and assemble wooden or steel skids according to required dimensions and load specifications.
• Inspect skids for structural integrity before use.
• Ensure all skids meet customer and internal quality standards.
Material Handling
• Move skids to production lines, packaging stations, and storage areas using forklifts or pallet jacks.
• Assist with staging materials for packaging, loading, or processing.
• Support crane operators and packagers by ensuring skids are available and properly positioned.
Warehouse Support
• Maintain inventory of skid materials (lumber, blocks, nails, plates).
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
• Assist with general warehouse tasks as needed, including banding, wrapping, or tagging steel products.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures, including PPE requirements.
• Report damaged skids, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues immediately.
• Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
📚 Required Skills & Qualifications
• Experience in a steel service center or industrial warehouse (preferred).
• Ability to operate forklifts and other material‑handling equipment.
• Basic carpentry or assembly skills for building skids.
• Ability to read measurements, work orders, and packaging instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, stand, and work in a fast‑paced warehouse environment.
