Position Summary
A busy, community-focused family practice in Asheville is seeking a reliable and patient-centered Medical Assistant to support both clinical flow and front office coordination. This role emphasizes patient interaction, documentation, and operational support, with limited hands-on clinical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Intake & Support
    • Room patients, obtain vitals, and update medical histories
    • Prepare patients for provider visits and ensure comfort
    • Document visit details accurately in the EMR system
    • Assist with patient follow-up instructions and next steps
  • Care Coordination
    • Schedule appointments and manage daily patient flow
    • Coordinate referrals, follow-ups, and outside services
    • Support preventive care tracking and outreach (annual visits, screenings)
    • Communicate with patients regarding appointments, forms, and general questions
  • Administrative & Office Support
    • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
    • Verify insurance and assist with prior authorizations
    • Process prescription refill requests and provider messages
    • Support billing workflows with charge entry and documentation review
  • Clinical Support (Limited Hands-On)
    • Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness/stock
    • Perform basic, non-invasive tasks as needed to support providers
    • Follow all safety, privacy, and infection control protocols

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
  • 1+ year of experience in a medical office or outpatient setting preferred
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and medical office workflows
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in family medicine or primary care
  • Familiarity with preventive care and care coordination workflows
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
