Position Summary
A busy, community-focused family practice in Asheville is seeking a reliable and patient-centered Medical Assistant to support both clinical flow and front office coordination. This role emphasizes patient interaction, documentation, and operational support, with limited hands-on clinical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Intake & Support
- Room patients, obtain vitals, and update medical histories
- Prepare patients for provider visits and ensure comfort
- Document visit details accurately in the EMR system
- Assist with patient follow-up instructions and next steps
- Care Coordination
- Schedule appointments and manage daily patient flow
- Coordinate referrals, follow-ups, and outside services
- Support preventive care tracking and outreach (annual visits, screenings)
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments, forms, and general questions
- Administrative & Office Support
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Verify insurance and assist with prior authorizations
- Process prescription refill requests and provider messages
- Support billing workflows with charge entry and documentation review
- Clinical Support (Limited Hands-On)
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness/stock
- Perform basic, non-invasive tasks as needed to support providers
- Follow all safety, privacy, and infection control protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- 1+ year of experience in a medical office or outpatient setting preferred
- Proficiency with EMR systems and medical office workflows
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience in family medicine or primary care
- Familiarity with preventive care and care coordination workflows
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
