Shop Technician – Industrial Controls & Fabrication
Pay: $20–$25/hour DOELocation: Albany, ORSchedule: Full-timeTravel: Approximately 10% (occasional regional job site support)
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Shop Technician to support the fabrication, assembly, and build-out of industrial electrical control systems and equipment. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced shop environment where you will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers building custom control panels, electrical enclosures, and automation systems used in industrial and utility applications.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with mechanical aptitude and basic experience using hand tools who is looking to grow into the industrial controls and electrical fabrication field. Training is provided for all specialized tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the fabrication and assembly of industrial control panels and electrical enclosures
Use a variety of hand tools and basic shop equipment (drills, saws, torque tools, grinders, etc.)
Drill, tap, and mount components according to drawings and schematics
Assist with basic wiring, routing, and termination of electrical components (training provided)
Read and follow shop drawings, layouts, and work instructions
Support technicians with assembly, retrofitting, and repair of industrial control systems
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Assist with testing, packaging, and preparation of completed systems for shipment or installation
Occasional travel to job sites for installation or support tasks (approx. 10%)
Qualifications
Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools
Prior shop, fabrication, construction, automotive, or manufacturing experience preferred
Ability to follow instructions, read basic drawings, and work in a team environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Willingness to learn electrical/control panel assembly and wiring processes
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Ability to lift and move materials as required in a shop setting
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience in electrical assembly, wiring, or industrial maintenance
Familiarity with basic electrical concepts (voltage, wiring, components)
Welding or metal fabrication exposure
Previous experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
