Job Full Description
The Field Service Technician services and supports industrial production equipment, including mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic systems used in thin film vacuum coating processes. This role works both on-site at customer facilities and internally as needed.
Technicians build long-term relationships with customers while providing technical expertise, troubleshooting, and process support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic sub-systems within thin film vacuum coating systems (both company-produced and other manufacturers’ equipment)
- Provide on-site technical service at customer facilities
- Deliver remote support for customer equipment and processes
- Monitor production and testing processes in optical lab environments
- Serve as a liaison between customers and internal sales/service teams regarding technical issues
- Assess customer needs related to maintenance, spare parts, equipment modernization, and process improvements
- Document experiments, service work, and summarize technical results
- Travel within the U.S. regularly (typically 3–5 days at a time; occasionally up to 14 days). Some weekend travel may be required. Limited international travel (less than 10% of total travel)
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with mechanical, electrical/electronic, or pneumatic systems (industrial, automotive, or similar industries)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting experience
- Ability to read or learn to interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics
- Comfortable working independently and under pressure
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Eligible to obtain or currently possess a valid passport
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to kneel, bend, and stoop as required
A college degree is not required for this position.
