Job Description: Patient Access Representative

Summary
The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in delivering excellent customer service while ensuring accurate and efficient patient registration. This position collaborates with multiple departments to enhance the patient experience and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Schedule & Compensation Requirements

  • Must be open to working 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week
  • Must be available for day, evening (grave), weekend, and holiday shifts
  • Base pay: $18/hour, with additional evening, night, and weekend shift differentials

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence

  • Welcome and assist patients and visitors with a professional and compassionate demeanor
  • Protect patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Understand the importance of accurate records in supporting patient care and departmental efficiency

Patient Registration & Documentation

  • Accurately identify and register patients in the ADT system to prevent duplicate or incorrect records
  • Verify physician information to ensure appropriate access to patient records
  • Enter and validate demographic, insurance, and compliance data in the Epic system
  • Obtain required signatures and provide necessary documentation to patients
  • Verify insurance coverage, estimate patient costs, and collect payments when applicable
  • Assist uninsured or underinsured patients with financial assistance programs and enrollment

Regulatory Compliance

  • Adhere to all federal and organizational healthcare regulations
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental procedures and emergency protocols

Team Collaboration

  • Maintain a positive attitude and uphold organizational behavioral standards
  • Support other departments to ensure seamless patient care
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvements
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet staffing and operational needs

Continuous Improvement

  • Meet productivity standards for registration speed, accuracy, and collections
  • Complete required training and competency assessments with a score of 90% or higher
  • Perform self-audits, prioritize tasks effectively, and seek ongoing learning opportunities

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional healthcare or customer service training preferred
  • Experience: Previous experience in patient registration or healthcare services preferred
  • Skills: Strong customer service, attention to detail, proficiency with Epic or similar systems, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
