Job Full Description
If you enjoy working outdoors and using data to understand forest resources, this role offers a great mix of fieldwork and analysis. In this position, you’ll assist with timber cruising and valuation projects for a forestry consulting firm in the Portland area, helping assess timber stands and support land management decisions.
Duties:
- Conduct timber cruising to measure and evaluate forest stands
- Collect field data including tree species, height, diameter, and volume
- Assist with timber valuation and resource assessments
- Use mapping and GIS tools to support forestry data collection and analysis
- Record and organize field data accurately for reporting and analysis
- Work in outdoor environments across varying terrain and weather conditions
- Collaborate with forestry consultants to support project planning and timberland evaluations
Requirements:
- Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to field locations
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with timber valuation or timberland appraisals
- Familiarity with GIS processing, including collecting, storing, analyzing, and visualizing geographic data
- Field experience with forestry measurements and data collection
