Express is looking for a Composite Assembly Tech 3 to join our team in Columbia County.

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Aerospace Composites Assembly Technician (Level III) with a proven background in bonded composite assembly for aerospace applications. This senior-level role requires not only technical excellence in composite fabrication and assembly but also the ability to solve complex engineering problems, conceptualize tooling and fixturing, manage a team of technicians, and work directly with customers and engineering teams. Ideal candidates will thrive in a fast-paced, open-ended environment, demonstrating leadership, creativity, and technical precision under tight timelines.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, build instructions, and CAD models to develop efficient assembly strategies.
  • Lead complex composite bonded assembly operations, including advanced wet layup, adhesive bonding, vacuum bagging, and demolding techniques.
  • Develop conceptual designs for custom fixtures, jigs, and assembly tooling, collaborating with engineering to support first article builds and production scaling.
  • Coordinate directly with internal engineering teams and external customers to resolve technical issues, clarify build strategies, and align with assembly expectations.
  • Manage and mentor a team of composite assembly technicians, providing hands-on training, guidance, and oversight to meet project objectives and quality standards.
  • Drive identification, communication, and resolution of assembly-related engineering challenges during prototype and production builds.
  • Rout, trim, drill, and sand composite structures to meet tight tolerance requirements, utilizing CMM data and engineering inspection criteria as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely process documentation, build travelers, and production logs.
  • Ensure compliance with all aerospace quality standards and internal procedures, participating actively in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with company policies and OSHA requirements.

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace composite fabrication and bonded assembly.
  • Expert-level ability to read and interpret complex aerospace drawings, specifications, and GD&T symbols.
  • Strong technical knowledge of composite materials, resin systems, adhesives, and curing methods used in aerospace structures.
  • Demonstrated experience with conceptual design and fabrication of tooling, fixturing, and shop aids.
  • Proven leadership experience managing small technical teams in a hands-on production environment.
  • Strong ability to problem-solve independently, drive solutions, and effectively escalate issues when necessary.
  • Comfortable working with open-ended scopes, requiring initiative, flexibility, and creative problem-solving to complete projects on schedule.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with engineers, customers, and cross-functional shop teams.
  • Strong commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and continuous improvement.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Certification(s) in composites manufacturing, aerospace assembly, or related disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with aerospace OEM or prime contractor quality systems (e.g., Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin specifications).
  • Experience supporting First Article Inspection (FAI) builds and production transition efforts.

 

Compensation:

  • $30-45 per hour

 

Shift:

Monday- Friday 6:30am- 3pm
