Position: Warehouse Supervisor
Department: Warehouse & Distribution
Reports To: Operations Manager / Warehouse Manager

Position Summary

The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations, leading a team of warehouse associates, maintaining inventory accuracy, coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, and ensuring a safe, productive work environment. This role requires strong leadership, inventory control experience, shipping and receiving knowledge, and the ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Supervision

  • Supervise and lead a team of warehouse associates (typically 10–30+ employees).
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure workloads are completed efficiently.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate production goals, safety expectations, quality standards, and daily priorities.
  • Train and mentor new employees on warehouse procedures and company policies.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching to improve productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP system.
  • Perform cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and identify root causes.
  • Implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory movement and ensure proper product storage and labeling.

Examples of Inventory Accuracy Improvements

  • Led weekly cycle count programs that significantly reduced inventory discrepancies.
  • Implemented standardized receiving and put-away procedures to improve inventory accuracy.
  • Worked with warehouse staff to identify picking errors and introduced barcode scanning procedures to reduce mistakes.
  • Investigated inventory variances and collaborated with purchasing and production teams to resolve issues.
  • Organized warehouse locations to improve inventory visibility and reduce misplaced products.

Shipping & Receiving Coordination

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with carriers and customers.
  • Schedule deliveries and pickups.
  • Prepare shipping documentation including Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing lists, and shipping labels.
  • Verify incoming shipments for accuracy and resolve receiving discrepancies.
  • Communicate with transportation providers regarding shipment status and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time.

Examples of Shipment Coordination

  • Scheduled daily freight pickups with LTL and parcel carriers.
  • Coordinated shipping priorities to meet customer deadlines.
  • Prepared shipping documentation and ensured compliance with transportation requirements.
  • Worked closely with customer service and production departments to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Resolved shipping delays and coordinated replacement shipments when necessary.

Forklift Operation

  • Safely operate sit-down, stand-up, reach, or pallet jack equipment.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Move materials throughout the warehouse.
  • Stack pallets and organize inventory.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of warehouse experience.
  • Previous experience supervising warehouse personnel.
  • Experience with inventory control and cycle counting.
  • Shipping and receiving coordination experience.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to safely operate forklifts.
  • Experience using WMS or ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and warehouse computer systems.

Preferred Experience

  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • OSHA safety knowledge.
  • Experience with barcode scanning systems and RF scanners.
  • Knowledge of freight carriers, shipping documentation, and inventory reporting.
