Job Summary
The Food Lab Technician Supervisor oversees daily laboratory operations within a food manufacturing facility, ensuring product quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role supervises lab technicians, coordinates testing processes, and supports continuous improvement in quality control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide direction to food lab technicians and support staff.
- Oversee routine and non-routine laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards such as FDA, USDA, HACCP, and GMP guidelines.
- Review and verify lab results for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Develop, implement, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Train, coach, and evaluate lab staff performance.
- Investigate out-of-specification results and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, lab records, and reports.
- Collaborate with quality assurance, production, and R&D teams to improve product quality.
- Ensure lab safety protocols are followed and promote a safe working environment.
- Manage inventory of lab supplies and coordinate ordering as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
- 3–5 years of laboratory experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and quality systems.
- Experience with laboratory testing methods and equipment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a laboratory setting within a food manufacturing facility.
- May require standing for long periods and handling food samples and lab equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
