Environmental Cleaning Specialist
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing – ISO 5 to ISO 7 Environments
Position Overview
The Environmental Cleaning Specialist is responsible for executing and documenting all cleaning and sanitization activities within ISO 5, ISO 6, and ISO 7 controlled environments. This role ensures compliance with cGMP, SOPs, and regulatory requirements to maintain a contamination-free manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands aseptic best practices, and can perform routine and critical cleaning tasks in highly regulated cleanroom settings.
Key Responsibilities
Cleanroom Cleaning & Sanitization

Perform routine, daily, and deep-cycle cleaning of ISO 5–7 areas, including production suites, airlocks, gowning rooms, and material transfer spaces.

Execute aseptic cleaning techniques using approved disinfectants, sterile wipes, mops, and tools.

Follow proper dwell times, rotation schedules, and disinfectant efficacy requirements.

Handle spills and contamination events per established SOPs and escalation procedures.
Compliance & Documentation

Complete all cleaning logs, batch records, and environmental cleaning documentation accurately and in real time.

Ensure all cleaning activities meet cGMP, FDA, and internal quality standards.

Support internal and external audits by maintaining organized and complete cleaning records.
Gowning & Aseptic Technique

Gown and de-gown following ISO-classified area protocols (ISO 5–7).

Maintain aseptic behavior and comply with unidirectional flow, restricted movement, and facility hygiene expectations.

Understand cross-contamination risks and proper material/personnel flow.
Environmental Control Support

Assist with environmental monitoring readiness by ensuring surfaces, equipment, and controlled areas are in audit-ready condition.

Stock, stage, and manage cleaning materials and disinfectants to ensure availability and compliance with shelf-life and rotation requirements.
Equipment & Facility Support

Clean and disinfect equipment exteriors, pass-throughs, carts, and other cleanroom-compatible tools.

Interface with production, maintenance, and quality teams to support planned and unplanned cleaning needs.
Qualifications
Required
-
1–3+ years experience in cleanroom cleaning, aseptic cleaning, custodial, facilities, or related controlled-environment work.

Working knowledge of cGMP, GDP, and cleanroom behavior expectations.

Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs, safety guidelines, and batch record documentation.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a regulated environment.
Preferred
-
Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device manufacturing.

Familiarity with ISO 5–7 cleanrooms and aseptic technique.

Prior gowning experience in classified areas.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive cleaning motions for extended periods.

Ability to lift 25–50 lbs as needed.

Comfortable working in full cleanroom PPE (hood, coveralls, booties, gloves, face protection).
Work Environment

Controlled cleanroom environment requiring strict adherence to gowning, cleanliness, and hygiene standards.

Interaction with chemical disinfectants and sterile cleaning materials.

Rotational cleaning including off-shifts, weekends, and shutdown deep-cleans as required.
