Machinist I
Department: Machine Shop
Reports To: Machine Shop Supervisor
Position Summary
The Machinist I is responsible for fabricating metal parts by operating mechanical and machining equipment. This role involves interpreting blueprints, maintaining quality and productivity standards, and supporting overall shop operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Machine Shop Helper

Read and interpret blueprints and design sketches to meet specified dimensions and tolerances, with assistance from other machinists or the supervisor as needed

Cut and fabricate parts to print using measuring tools, saws, mills, and other machining equipment

Properly use and maintain required safety equipment
-
Assist other team members within the department as needed

Follow assigned work orders to determine required parts and priorities
-
Maintain a minimum productivity rate of 100% after the training period
-
Ensure clocked time in Visual (Work Orders and/or Detailed Indirect Entry) reflects at least 80% of paid work hours

Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe

Perform all work in accordance with company quality policies

Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Supervisory Responsibilities
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED required
-
Minimum of 2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Skills
-
Ability to read a tape measure
-
Proficient with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, etc.)
-
Ability to operate Bridgeport mills and saws, including setup, with assistance as needed

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals
-
Ability to follow simple instructions
-
Ability to read English

Proficient with general hand tools

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
