Design With a Builder’s Eye
A small, family-owned remodeling company is seeking someone who can connect residential design with the realities of high-end custom construction. This hybrid role combines architectural design and drafting responsibilities with hands-on finish carpentry.
There is not one required path into this position. Experience in residential design, architectural drafting, finish carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, kitchen-and-bath design, or custom remodeling may transfer well. The strongest candidate will understand how spaces come together and be motivated to learn the company’s design software.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with designs and plans for high-end residential remodeling projects
- Translate project needs, measurements, and existing conditions into workable layouts
- Create and revise drawings using the company’s design software
- Apply practical construction knowledge to design details
- Identify potential installation or buildability concerns before work begins
- Complete hands-on finish carpentry based on project needs
- Work with custom trim, cabinetry, millwork, and detailed interior finishes
- Collaborate closely with ownership and a small project team
- Support projects from early design development through field execution
Experience That May Qualify
- Residential remodeling design
- Architectural drafting or architectural design
- Finish carpentry
- Cabinetmaking or cabinet design
- Millwork or custom woodworking
- Kitchen-and-bath design
- Construction estimating or project planning
- Residential CAD or design-software experience
Previous experience using the company’s exact software is not required if you have strong computer aptitude and can independently learn a new design program.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong understanding of measurements, proportions, and construction details
- Ability to read or create residential plans and drawings
- Practical knowledge of how residential projects are built and installed
- Strong finish-carpentry experience is highly valuable
- Creativity balanced with accuracy and real-world constructability
- Willingness to divide time between computer-based design and hands-on work
- Comfortable working closely with a small, family-owned team
- Self-directed learning ability and genuine interest in high-end custom remodeling
Relevant architecture or design education is valuable, including education or experience earned outside the United States. Demonstrated ability and transferable construction knowledge will carry significant weight.
Physical and Work Environment
- Combination of office, shop, and residential jobsite work
- Extended computer work while producing and revising designs
- Standing, bending, reaching, and handling tools or materials during carpentry work
- Regular movement between detailed design tasks and hands-on project needs
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Work on high-end custom residential projects rather than repetitive production designs
- Use both creative design ability and practical construction knowledge
- Small, family-owned environment where your work directly influences each project
- Opportunity to learn specialized residential design software
- Pay up to $30.00 per hour based on relevant design and carpentry experience
- Long-term career potential with room to deepen both design and building skills
- Opportunity to transition directly onto the company’s team after a successful introductory period
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Weekly pay
- Referral bonus
