Diesel Mechanic | $30/Hour | Monday–Friday Day Shift
We are hiring an experienced, dependable Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, maintain, and repair medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. This position focuses on inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and routine repairs, with major engine and transmission work returned to the shop for daytime service.
Pay: $30.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On-Call Rotation: Approximately one night per week and one weekend per month
Service Area: Champaign County, Illinois
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical problems on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles
- Complete routine repairs on vehicle components and related systems
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance services
- Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs during on-call assignments
- Return vehicles requiring major repairs to the shop for daytime service
- Use basic hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and completed repairs
- Follow all company safety practices and procedures
- Keep tools, equipment, and the work area clean and organized
Qualifications
- Three to five years of automotive or diesel mechanic experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Experience working with medium- or heavy-duty vehicles is preferred
- Formal automotive or diesel training is helpful but not required
- Additional training may be provided for the right candidate
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to travel throughout Champaign County
- Must be available for approximately one on-call night per week and one weekend per month
- Respectful, punctual, dependable, and hardworking
- Able to work independently and retain new technical information
- Safety-conscious with strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to bend, crouch, twist, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding mechanical work
