Location: Brighton, MI
Schedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday
Pay Rate: Up to $22/hour (Based on Experience)

About the Opportunity
Express Employment Professionals is hiring a General Utility Technician to join the Mechanical Assembly & Fabrication Department of a leading manufacturing organization in Brighton. This role offers long-term stability, hands-on mechanical work, and the opportunity to learn multiple functions across the production floor.
This position supports assembly, fabrication, machining, painting, and general utility duties to ensure smooth operations and high-quality production output. Ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy variety in their daily tasks.
Work Schedule & Overtime Expectations
This facility operates on a variable schedule based on workload:

Standard Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Overtime Shifts: May extend to 3:30 PM or 4:30 PM

Weekend OT: Partial shifts (half days), voluntary or mandatory depending on production demand

Current state: Mandatory 10-hour days, shifting to 9 hours with optional 10
-
Due to strong backlog, expect consistent overtime opportunities for the foreseeable future
Position Summary
The General Utility role supports multiple areas including mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, painting, machining, material handling, and general maintenance. This is a versatile, hands-on position requiring a strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities

Perform bench operations including: filing, drilling, tapping, reaming, deburring, cutting, and chipping
-
Assemble small and medium-sized mechanical and electrical products
-
Tasks may include wire cutting, soldering, crimping, splicing, and related operations
-
Move materials using hand carts, pallet jacks, or overhead lifting devices
-
Perform painting duties using spray gun equipment (gel-coat, enamel, lacquer, etc.)
-
Perform light manual machining
-
Inspect work and ensure all parts meet quality specifications

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
-
Support general facility upkeep and utilities maintenance as needed
-
Assist across multiple departments and perform additional duties assigned by supervisors
Required Skills & Competencies
-
Ability to read and interpret assembly blueprints and electrical diagrams
-
Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools

Able to operate basic shop equipment such as:
-
Drill press
-
Hydraulic press
-
Pedestal grinder

Knowledge of measuring instruments including:
-
Able to make minor adjustments and corrections to parts
-
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
-
Ability to produce high-quality work consistently
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required
-
2–4 years of mechanical assembly, fabrication, machining, or related experience preferred
-
Ability to lift, stand, and perform physical work throughout the shift

Reliable attendance — essential due to production demand
