Electrical Assembly Technician – Control Panels & Conveyor Systems
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract position until January 2027
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – approximately 5:30 PM–6:00 PM
Pay Range: $25.00 – $30.00/hour, based on experience
Introduction
Express Employment Professionals is hiring an experienced Electrical Assembly Technician to build custom electrical control panels and conveyor systems for industrial equipment.
We're specifically looking for candidates with hands-on electrical assembly and wiring experience who can confidently read engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. While this position also includes mechanical assembly, electrical assembly is the primary skill we're seeking.
If you enjoy building equipment from prints, wiring control panels, and seeing a project come together from electrical assembly through final mechanical build, this is an excellent opportunity to put your skills to work.
Position Summary
The Electrical Assembly Technician will build and wire electrical control panels and conveyor systems using engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Projects are detailed rather than high-volume—a typical control panel may take approximately two weeks to complete. Technicians are given daily priorities by the manager and are expected to focus on quality, accuracy, and completing each phase of the build correctly.
You'll begin with electrical assembly and wiring before transitioning into the mechanical assembly portion of the equipment build.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Assembly & Panel Building
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Build and wire industrial electrical control panels.
- Install and wire electrical components according to specifications.
- Route, terminate, and organize wiring within control panels and equipment.
- Complete electrical assembly for conveyor systems and industrial equipment.
- Verify completed work against drawings and build specifications.
- Identify and communicate discrepancies between prints and the physical build.
- Work around controls utilizing Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLC platforms.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional panel wiring.
Mechanical Assembly
Once electrical assembly is completed, technicians will transition into mechanical build responsibilities, including:
- Assemble mechanical components of conveyor systems and industrial equipment.
- Follow mechanical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Install hardware, brackets, components, and assemblies.
- Perform drilling, fastening, grinding, cutting, and other fabrication/assembly tasks as required.
- Work with pneumatic components and systems.
- Make adjustments to assemblies to ensure proper fit and function.
Tools & Equipment
Technicians should be comfortable working with:
- Soldering equipment
- Hand tools
- Power tools
- Drills
- Screwdrivers
- Saws
- Grinders
- Electrical wiring and termination tools
- Measuring and assembly equipment
Material & Workstation Support
- Verify staged materials against the requirements of each build.
- Occasionally assist with pulling materials needed for a project.
- Maintain an organized workstation throughout the assembly process.
- Work collaboratively with material handlers, engineering, and other assembly team members.
Material handlers typically stage components directly at the workstation, so routine forklift or crane operation is not required for this position.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 1 year of electrical assembly experience.
- Hands-on experience wiring electrical components and/or industrial control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Engineering drawings
- Experience using soldering equipment, hand tools, power tools, drills, screwdrivers, saws, and grinders.
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems and components.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform both electrical and mechanical assembly.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently from prints and daily work priorities.
- Ability to lift approximately 20–25 lbs.
Preferred
- Industrial control panel building experience.
- Conveyor system or machine-building experience.
- Experience working around Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment.
- Experience working around Siemens PLC-controlled equipment.
- Previous electrical/mechanical machine assembly experience.
- Experience in custom automation, material handling, or industrial equipment manufacturing.
