Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost to staff through Express Employment Professionals?

The cost depends on your hiring needs, the type of role, and local market conditions, and pricing is typically structured as an hourly bill rate for temporary or evaluation‑hire employees. For temporary, contract and evaluation‑hire staffing, there are typically no upfront recruiting fees. You only pay for the hours worked under the agreed bill rate. For direct hire (full‑time placement) services, fee structures may differ and are determined by the local office based on role complexity, urgency, and market conditions.

    • Contract Staffing

    • Direct Hire
  • Why shouldn’t I just recruit and hire on my own?

You can recruit independently, but when you work with Express, we can help reduce your time-to-hire, provide access to pre-screened candidates, manage fluctuating workloads, and take the burden and time of recruiting, screening, and compliance off your shoulders.

  • Does Express Employment Professionals recruit from the same pool of candidates as me?

No. Express maintains its own ongoing recruiting pipeline and candidate database, built through daily recruiting, advertising, referrals, and active job seekers who work through Express offices. Employers gain access to candidates they may not reach through online job postings alone.

  • What skills does Express Employment Professionals test for?

All Express associates are screened through an ISO‑registered selection process, which can include evaluations for:

    • Math
    • Data entry
    • Spelling
    • Measuring
    • Bookkeeping
    • Medical terminology
  • What goes into the bill rate?

The bill rate is made up of the associate’s hourly pay rate plus a markup to cover the payroll burden (FICA, FUTA/SUTA, Workers’ Comp) and the costs associated with our services in finding the right candidate for your role.

  • What does the markup include?

The markup includes mandated labor costs, also known as the payroll burden. These include FICA, FUTA and SUTA taxes, as well as Workers’ Compensation rates. Additionally, the markup covers the overhead and operating costs to Express for recruiting, screening and onboarding qualified associates for your open roles.

  • What is the difference between the bill rate and the pay rate?

The pay rate is the hourly wage our associate receives. The bill rate is the total amount you will pay Express, including the pay rate and the markup for our services and federally and state/province mandated labor costs.

  • What does having an ISO-registered selection process mean?

Express Employment Professionals uses an ISO 9001:2015‑registered selection process, meaning its recruiting and screening procedures are audited against international quality management standards. This ensures consistency, documentation, and continuous improvement in candidate evaluation.
